Magnetic Fabric ABCs
One way we get Kenley to help out around the house is by having her do chores every day. At the end of the week she gets her “commission” (thanks Dave Ramsey!) of$1.25 for helping out. 50 cents for spending, 50 cents for savings, and 25 cents for the church.
Some of her chores include: taking vitamins, morning prayer, memorize scripture, clean up toys, brush teeth, feed dog, set table, unload dishwasher, etc. I got these laminated chore cards off Etsy and then I put magnets on the back. In our kitchen the side of our stove shows, so we put the chores cards on there every morning. When she wakes up she can see what chores she has to do for the day.
The problem is Cohen likes to take her chore magnets and play with them by bringing them all over the house. (Little Stinker!) I wanted him to have something magnetic to play with so that we will quit losing Kenley’s chore magnets.
A few months back I found some Fabric ABCs on Etsy. They seemed a little expensive and I figured now that I know how to sew I should be able to make them.
I found this tutorial which was such a huge help with the step by step instructions. The only thing I did different was make the alphabet a few inches bigger. These were so much more cheap to make myself, they were also thicker than the ones on Etsy. These took me about 4 hours total to cut and sew.
Then I found this tutorial on YouTube on how to sew a simple drawstring bag with some of the leftover fabric.
I gave them to Cohen for his birthday. Here they are on the side of the stove. I also plan to paint magnetic primer in his room (before I paint the real color on the walls) then he can play with them in his room too.
He LOVES playing with them, especially throwing them and seeing if the magnets will catch! What a smart little boy ![]()
What is that face? haha
